RISE

RISE - Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence

RISE is the Department for Education’s school improvement model for England, designed to raise educational standards through a combination of universal support and targeted intervention.

Its purpose is to break the link between a child’s background and their future success. All schools are part of the RISE system, benefiting from access to evidence-informed practice, professional networks and peer support, while schools facing the greatest challenges receive targeted improvement support to accelerate progress and secure sustainable improvement.

The RISE Regional Plan

The regional RISE plan sets out how universal RISE will be delivered locally to improve outcomes for all children and young people.

By bringing partners together around the 4 national priorities:

  • Reception year Quality
  • Attendance
  • Inclusive Mainstream
  • Attainment in English and Maths

It provides shared direction, coherence and a practical framework for strengthening practice, building capacity and supporting sustained improvement. Please find the South West Regional Plan here:

Targeted Support

Targeted provides tailored support for schools facing the greatest challenges. RISE advisers engage with eligible schools and their responsible body to agree an improvement plan, backed by resources to reduce barriers to improvement. Eligibility for targeted RISE intervention is determined through Ofsted inspections. Further details on eligibility and the circumstances in which a school may receive targeted RISE intervention are outlined in the support and intervention in schools guidance.
