"The ECT training that I have attended have been well delivered and I feel this has progress my teaching practice significantly. I enjoyed the modules and the facilitators were always supportive."

Early Career Teacher Programme

The offer for early career teachers includes:

  • 2 years of funded, high-quality training freely available

  • additional funding for 5% time away from the classroom for teachers in their second year

  • a dedicated mentor and support for these mentors

  • funding to cover mentors’ time with the ECT in the second year of teaching

  • Appropriate Bodies will have a role in ensuring that a suitable ECTP of support is in place

Schools are expected to deliver an induction period that is underpinned by the ECTP

There are 2 approaches that schools can choose from to enable the delivery of an ECTP induction:

  • A provider-led programme. OneCornwall will fully administer this using The National Institute of Teaching’s materials

  • School led

Early career framework induction evaluation

The final evaluation report of the Early Career Framework (ECF) was published on 29 May and is now available on GOV.UK. This comprehensive study followed the first cohort of ECTs, mentors, and induction tutors over two years, exploring their experiences, outcomes, and the impact of different induction models. Key findings highlight increased confidence, motivation, and job satisfaction among ECTs, growing sector support, and early signs of improved teacher retention. The report reflects how the DfE has responded to feedback while maintaining the quality and integrity of the programme.
